To promote and stimulate interest in our beautiful beach community placing emphasis on quality of life, art, culture and community service. The Civic Association takes an active role in and keeps its members informed regarding the improvement, operation, and management of our City, County, and State. As we identify and recognize the communities needs, the Civic Association encourages the participation of its membership and the Community in an effort to improve Saint Augustine Beach.
December was an incredible month for our community. We thank everyone who either volunteered, participated and supported all of these great events. The Civic Association's Surf Illumination event was a big hit with kids of all shapes, sizes and ages. Santa stopped by and posed for photos and Mayor Andrea Samuels threw the swwitch on our gorgeous holiday tree with the help of State Representative Doc Renuart.
The Divas Half Marathon and 5K run took place for the first time here in St Augustine Beach on Sunday December 7th. Beach Boulevard was filled with over 3000 runners, mostly female for this fn and very well organized event. According to early numbers the event attracted over 6000 people to the community, over2000 overnight stays and over 1.8 million dollars of ecoonomic impact. Kudos to the both our City and County governments and a very special thank you to our St Augustine Beach Police, St Johns County Sheriff's Department and our Fire-Rescue first responders for their stellar effort.
And on a windy and chilly New Years Eve we rang in the 2015 with Beach Blast Off. Once again the event drew huge crowds and teh entertainment was exceptional this year. The talented and unique Pristine Strings opened the show. Fans were then treated to the very soulful sounds of Billy Buchanan and Free Avenue. The very talented Red River Band provided two sets of music, one before and one after the souths best New Years Fireworks show.
Hope to see everyone next year for another amazing holiday season here in St Augustine Beach. To see more photos please visit the event website at www.beachblastoff.com
